SEPTEMBER 2025

Director’s Address

Hello District 44

This month I decided to take you on a S.H.O.W. U.P. mantra journey to break down one powerful piece of what it means to S.H.O.W. U.P! As we have launched into reinvestment season, I thought it fitting to start start with the “O”:

Own Your Journey.

This isn’t just a catchy phrase — it’s a mindset shift. To own your journey means to stop waiting for permission, for the perfect moment, or for someone else to push you. It means claiming your growth, your goals, and your leadership legacy as YOUR responsibility.

Here’s the truth: No one can walk your path for you. As your District Director, I can cheer you on, create opportunities, and open doors — but YOU have to choose to step through.

So how do you Own Your Journey?

Let’s get practical. Here are three ways you can start this month:

Set YOUR Intentions.
Take time to write down what you want to achieve this Toastmasters year. Is it earning your next Pathways level? Delivering that keynote you’ve been dreaming of? Stepping into leadership? Be bold and specific.

Invest in Consistency.
Growth doesn’t happen by accident. Commit to showing up regularly — to club meetings, to speech contests, to training. Consistency compounds, and it’s how ordinary goals turn into extraordinary results!

Find Your Accountability.
Don’t walk this journey alone. Pair up with a mentor, a fellow club member, or even someone from another club. Accountability keeps you moving forward when life gets busy.

Why It Matters

When you Own Your Journey, you unlock the power of choice. You stop waiting, and you start creating. You shift from being a passenger to becoming the driver of your own success.

And here’s the beautiful part: as you own your journey, you give others permission to do the same. Your courage sparks someone else’s, and before you know it, our entire District is SHOWING UP TOGETHER!

So this September, I challenge you: Take full ownership of your Toastmasters journey. Step into your meetings with intention. Say YES to opportunities. Put your hand up for the role, the speech, the challenge.

Because this year, District 44 isn’t just participating — we are ready to SHOW UP!

With excitement to witness your journey,
DTM Yolonda Jay
District 44 Director, 2025–2026
