Toastmasters International is a global nonprofit organization that has empowered individuals to become confident communicators and transformative leaders since its founding in 1924 by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley. Today, Toastmasters serves more than 280,000 members in over 14,700 clubs across 144 countries.
Our Story
The History of District 44
Our Georgia Roots: From One District to Two
Toastmasters was introduced to Georgia in the 1940s, with the first club—Henry W. Grady Toastmasters—chartered in 1944. For decades, District 14 served the entire state, supporting the growth of clubs and member recognition programs like Toastmaster of the Year.
By 2012, Georgia’s growth led to a split: clubs east of I-85 remained District 14, while those west of I-85 became the newly formed District 44. Since then, District 44 has proudly empowered members across Georgia to build confidence, communication skills, and leadership excellence.
